Uva Wine Bar Donates $3,000 To Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth Cardiovascular Services

PLYMOUTH, MA (March 5, 2020) – In observance of American Heart Month in February, Uva Wine Bar, the South Shore’s first and only self-serve wine bar created a month-long “Sip Red For Heart Health” campaign to raise funds for Cardiovascular Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth (BID – Plymouth). Uva raised $3,000 through sales of all red wines and a special Merlot Wine Tasting event.

It is a well-known fact that drinking moderate amounts of wine, specifically red wine, results in reduced rates of heart disease. Researchers believe that red wine’s high concentration of polyphenol antioxidants can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and metabolic diseases. During Uva’s “Sip Red For Heart Health” campaign, the Plymouth wine bar pledged 15% of sales from red wines throughout the month of February in 2020. Uva also hosted a Merlot wine tasting event where five dollars from each of the 25 tickets sold was donated to BID – Plymouth. Both of these efforts resulted in a donation that was rounded up to $3,000.

“Many people remarked about how generous they thought this donation was, but it would not have been possible without our amazing customers who came to Uva throughout the month and enjoyed the 24 red wines we offer on a daily basis,” said Katy Gaenicke, co-owner of Uva Wine Bar. “We are grateful that Uva has been so well received in the Plymouth community and we feel it is important for us to give back to the community that has made us so successful right from the start!”

Uva Wine Bar, located at 46 Main St in Plymouth, Mass. offers 48 different wines from around the world through self-serve WineStations. Customers can get a 1.5 oz. taste, a 3 oz. half glass, or a full 6 oz. pour of any of the wines. The wine bar was founded in 2019 by Katy Gaenicke and Michelle Manware, who share a passion for wine, and decided to open Uva after discovering this self-serve technology while on vacation. Uva’s operating hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, 4:30 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 to 11 p.m. Friday, and 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday. For more information visit www.uvawineplymouth.com
