Uva Wine Bar Pulls The Plug On Complimentary Toilet Paper And Paper Towels

PLYMOUTH, MA (April 1, 2021) – Uva Wine Bar today announced that they will only provide toilet paper and paper towels in their restrooms to customers based on their wine consumption at Uva. Starting today, for each ounce of wine purchased, the customer will get one square of toilet paper; one sheet of paper towel will additionally be given if the customer has at least six ounces on their wine card.

“People have the preconceived notion that toilet paper and paper towel should be free, but it is a significant expense to businesses and it affects the bottom line [pun intended!] and we don’t have that kind of money to flush down the drain,” said Katy Gaenicke, co-owner of Uva Wine Bar. “Every month we spend a whole lot of money on restroom paper products, and we feel that people are taking advantage of the fact that it is free. In fact, we have it on good authority that people just come to Uva to use our bathrooms because we buy high quality toilet paper – none of that crappy [again, pun intended] single-ply stuff!”

Starting on April 1, 2021 the staff at Uva will check customer’s wine purchases on their wine cards and discreetly dispense toilet paper and paper towel accordingly.

Gaenicke continued, “If you’ve made it through this whole press release, then we have only one more thing to say to you – April Fools!!!”

Uva Wine Bar, located at 46 Main St in Plymouth, Mass. offers 48 different wines from around the world through self-serve WineStations. Customers can get a 1.5 oz. taste, a 3 oz. half glass, or a full 6 oz. pour of any of the wines. PLYMOUTH, MA (September 25, 2020) – With everybody focusing on COVID-19 in 2020, it is easy to forget all the other critical medical causes that need support. The year of 2020 has thrown us a curveball, but October is still Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Uva Wine Bar is honoring the month with its second annual “Clink for Pink” campaign. This year, 100% of proceeds from all the Rosé wines will be donated to the Breast Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (BID Plymouth) throughout the month of October.

“Our hospital workers have put in tireless hours, and continue to do so, during this pandemic. This month gives us the opportunity to recognize and support the team at the Breast Center who provide vital resources for Plymouth area patients who are affected by a different, but just as important, health crisis,” said Michelle Manware, Uva Wine Bar co-owner and physician assistant at BID Plymouth Ob/Gyn & Midwifery. “We are so thankful to our loyal customers who have made it possible for us to continue to help raise funds through this campaign that is near and dear to our hearts.”

Last year, Uva donated 50% of proceeds from four wines, resulting in a $2,500 donation. This year, Uva will donate 100% of proceeds from the sales of all the Rosé wines at Uva, due to the generosity of their distributors (MS Walker, Martignetti Carolina Division, Horizon Beverage and Ruby Wines) who have donated the wines for this worthy cause.

“We appreciate Katy and Michelle’s continued partnership with BID Plymouth, and are grateful that Uva will continue its ‘Clink for Pink’ campaign during this challenging year,” said Karen Wood, Vice President of Philanthropy at BID Plymouth.

Uva Wine Bar Launches New Mobile App For iPhone Users

PLYMOUTH, MA (March 11, 2020) – Uva Wine Bar, New England’s first and only self-serve wine bar, located in America’s Hometown of Plymouth, Mass. has created a mobile app that customers can use to enhance their experience at Uva Wine Bar. When customers download the Uva app, they can access Uva’s extensive list of wine offerings, provide star ratings for the wines (and see other average ratings), create a personalized Favorites list of wines, and make weekday reservations at Uva.

“South Shore residents have embraced the self-serve technology at Uva Wine Bar and we’re so excited to take that technology offering to the next level,” said Katy Gaenicke, co-owner of Uva Wine Bar. “We often are asked if we have a current wine list, but our wine offerings are constantly changing. With our new mobile app, customers will now be able to see what is currently in the self-serve WineStations at Uva, in real time. They will also get to see what others think of each wine and create a list of their favorite Uva wines so they don’t have to take pictures of the labels, or try to remember what they liked.”

The Uva Wine Bar mobile app can be downloaded for free at the Apple Store. Uva’s wine lovers will enjoy these primary features within the mobile app:

  1. Wine List – Uva features 48 wines in the self-serve WineStations as well as Prosecco and Sangria behind the bar. The wines are changed out on a regular basis and customers can see in the app what is currently in the WineStations. Wines that have been rotated out of the WineStations will still be visible in the app, but will be shaded to avoid confusion. The wine list can be filtered by grape variety and region/country.
  2. Star Ratings – Customers are able to rate the wines at Uva on a 1 to 5 star basis. That information will be averaged and made visible to all customers so they can see what others think of a specific wine before they try it.
  3. Favorites – When a customer finds a wine that they love, they will be able to create their own personalized “favorites” list within the Uva app. They simply tap the heart next to that wine label and it is automatically saved, so they can refer to their personalized favorites list during their next visit to Uva.
  4. Reservations – Uva accepts reservations for parties of six or more Sunday through Thursday. Customers will be able to make a reservation directly through the app.

Uva Wine Bar Donates $3,000 To Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Plymouth Cardiovascular Services

PLYMOUTH, MA (March 5, 2020) – In observance of American Heart Month in February, Uva Wine Bar, the South Shore’s first and only self-serve wine bar created a month-long “Sip Red For Heart Health” campaign to raise funds for Cardiovascular Services at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital Plymouth (BID – Plymouth). Uva raised $3,000 through sales of all red wines and a special Merlot Wine Tasting event.

It is a well-known fact that drinking moderate amounts of wine, specifically red wine, results in reduced rates of heart disease. Researchers believe that red wine’s high concentration of polyphenol antioxidants can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and metabolic diseases. During Uva’s “Sip Red For Heart Health” campaign, the Plymouth wine bar pledged 15% of sales from red wines throughout the month of February in 2020. Uva also hosted a Merlot wine tasting event where five dollars from each of the 25 tickets sold was donated to BID – Plymouth. Both of these efforts resulted in a donation that was rounded up to $3,000.

“Many people remarked about how generous they thought this donation was, but it would not have been possible without our amazing customers who came to Uva throughout the month and enjoyed the 24 red wines we offer on a daily basis,” said Katy Gaenicke, co-owner of Uva Wine Bar. “We are grateful that Uva has been so well received in the Plymouth community and we feel it is important for us to give back to the community that has made us so successful right from the start!”
